WordPress Multisite

Post by Paul Barrett »

Hi Steve

I've been thinking about converting my various individual WP installations into WordPress Multisite to reduce administration time. Have you tried Multisite?

From what I've read, MS doesn't support different domain names. You either have to use subdomains or folder for each installation.

I'm wondering if web station would let you solve that by mapping the domains to the respective folders and substituting the URLs. What do you think?

I have never used Multisite so I do not have an answer. If multisite does not support different domain names, that would not work for me as I only have one IP address and would rather not use sub-domains.

I use virtual hosts pointing to individual folders containing separate programs. I have two WordPress sites and one phpBB site running on one Synology NAS.

There are plugins you can get to map domains to their multisite targets

But I am abandoning the idea. It looks like the work involved to convert to MS is significant. Life's too short.

If i was starting over i would do MS from the start. 20/20 hindsight
